LONDON — UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Sunday he’s willing to make a post-Brexit trade deal with President Trump on one condition: Britain gets back its 13 original colonies.
In a press conference at 10 Downing Street, Johnson appeared more determined that ever to make a deal. But he said he can’t in good conscience move forward with negotiations unless he gets back what he called “historically British soil” as part of the deal.

“I say, it’s not something I can simply brush aside, you know?” Johnson said. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a lad — reunite the Kingdom with the New World. I feel as though the time has come.”
For his part, President Trump did not reject Johnson’s demand outright, but said he wouldn’t budge on the “red states” of the two Carolinas and Georgia. Virginia was off the table too, Trump said, until “they turned blue on me last November.”
It’s not clear what Trump would want in return for the original colonies, but he did say Wales was “out of the question.”
