AUSTIN — Researchers at the University of Texas have published a shocking new study that found the older people get, the more at risk they are of sudden death.

“As unbelievable as it seems, we have determined there is a definite link between aging and dying,” Dr. Wilmott de Vanderhool, lead scientist at the Dorman Institute of Aging, said.

“In the past, we suspected that aging might have something to do with going to our final resting place, but this study confirms those suspicions,” he said.

Researchers said they still don’t have all of the answers yet, but they suspect that there is a trigger somewhere in the body that instructs an otherwise healthy heart to simply stop beating, thereby leading to oxygen deprivation for bodily systems and, eventually, death.

“We’re currently working on a solution,” de Vanderhool said, adding that a “cure” is likely still years away.

Asked what direction the research team is heading now that the study is complete, de Vanderhool hinted that new research likely has to do with genetic alteration.

“If we can develop a way to turn off that trigger, genetically, then it’s possible people could actually live forever,” he said. “Finding it won’t be easy, though. And everything we’ve tried up to this point hasn’t worked, obviously.”
