WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Bernie Sanders promised supporters he would remain in the race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination as long as it took to remind Joe Biden he still had a competitor.
“I think that means I’m in it for the long haul,” Sanders said after his Sunday debate with Biden. “I mean, look, I like the guy. Served with him a long time in the Senate. But, uh, you know, how do I say it? Sometimes from debate to debate, he seems surprised that I’m still around.
“I asked him before our latest debate, ‘You still know who I am, right Joe?’ And he nodded, ‘Yeah..You’re Bernie, right?’” Sanders said.

“But as the night wore on, I caught him looking over at me a couple of times with a confused look on his face, as if he didn’t recognize me or his surroundings,” Sanders continued. “Kinda pathetic, really.
“They say, though, that if you continue to remind folks with his, um, ‘condition,’ that helps,” Sanders noted. “So I will pledge to you all now, I will continue reminding Joe Biden I’m in the race against him for as long as it takes!”
For his part, Biden said after the debate he was just playing around with Sanders with the looks of confusion.
“I think it threw him off his game,” Biden said before leaving the briefing room through the wrong door.
