19-year-old wins $25k lottery on first-ever ticket, buys what’s left of post-COVID Manhattan

METARIE, La. — After 19-year-old Sarah Jamison bought her first lottery ticket last week and won a $25,000 jackpot, she had no idea how she was going to spend her money.

That is, until she got a phone call from members of the New York City counsel.

After about an hour’s worth of negotiating, Jamison agreed to use her earnings to purchase a sizable portion of Manhattan, provided she also agreed to hire back at least 10,000 workers furloughed for a year during the COVID shutdown and donate a few bucks to Bill de Blasio’s campaign.

“I’ve always wondered what it would be like to own a skyscraper in downtown New York City and now I own like 15 of them,” a clearly excited Jamison told reporters. “Who would have thought this was possible even a year ago?”

The terms of the deal were not made public, but sources close to Jamison said that even after the purchase, she will still have a large portion of her winnings.

“Who knows, she might even buy Queens,” one of them said.
