MAR-A-LAGO, Fla. — President Donald Trump was so enamored with taking a lap in the presidential limo at Daytona Speedway ahead of Sunday’s race that he has announced he’ll join NASCAR after leaving the Oval Office.
“It was exhilarating and liberating, that I can tell you,” the president told reporters Monday. “Imagine, if you will, driving around that historic track at amazing speeds. Just amazing speeds.
“Let me just tell you, I will more than imagine that experience. After serving my next term, I will live it,” he added.
Trump acknowledged he could be in his early 80s by the time he’s ready for his first race, but that didn’t appear to phase him.
“I have much more energy than anyone my age, anyone. Much more. Ask anyone at the White House, they’ll tell you,” he said.
Queried about the future of the sport of NASCAR, Trump vowed, “America will never be a Grand Prix country!”
