(ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.) A former Democratic lawmaker explained why he is no longer a member of that party and is now a Republican instead.
Rep. Jeff Van Drew said during a townhall event this week that the reason he left his former party is because he “wasn’t a big enough hypocrite.”
“I don’t know how many people know this, but in order to become a member of the Democratic Party, they make you take a sort of ‘Hypocritic Oath,'” Van Drew explained. “You’re not permitted to be genuine about anything. And when you talk about representing your constituents, you’re required to cross your fingers behind your back because that way you can lie with a straight face.
“I found that I just could never be the hypocrite Democrats required me to be,” Van Drew continued. “I actually wanted my words to mean something when I said them. I actually wanted the people I represent to be able to trust what I said. You’re not really useful to the Nancy Pelosis, Chuck Schumers, and Hakeem Jeffries’ of the party unless you can be a massive hypocrite.
“You have to be able to say, with meaning, ‘Trump deserves to be prosecuted for having classified documents, but Biden doesn’t.’ With conviction, you have to be able to argue that Trump’s sons should be in jail but Hunter Biden should be walking free and clear,” Van Drew noted further.
“Only a Democrat believes those things,” he added.
