(WASHINGTON) Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff has been married to Vice President Kamala Harris for years, but he only recently got his first experience hanging out with real Black Americans at a White House event.
The VP’s hubby spoke about his experience and said it was one of the best he’s had in his lifetime.
“You know, I thought I was part of the so-called ‘Black movement’ in America being married to Kamala, but she’s not really that Black at all. Once I was around real Black Americans, man, I have to tell you, my eyes have been opened,” he said.
“I never really thought that I lived a sheltered life as a privileged White liberal, but you know what? I guess I was,” Emhoff continued. “Being around real Black Americans was truly exhilarating. I’m so excited I finally got to experience that. I know my beloved wife is happy for me too.
“And you know, she actually got her first experience being around real Black Americans the same night I did, so that’s doubly exciting,” Emhoff noted further. “We are both definitely better people for it.”
Asked when the couple planned to spend more time around real Black Americans, the second gentleman blurted out: “Very soon, I hope!”
