(NEW YORK CITY) Mayor Eric Adams said he is baffled and frustrated by the growing number of illegal migrants in the Big Apple even though, during his campaign, he touted NYC as a “sanctuary city” that would remain as such under his leadership.

“I have to tell you, the situation has long since gotten way out of control,” Adams told a local outlet. “It’s very frustrating. I mean, I know what I said during my campaign, but come on — it was a campaign statement! Nobody ever takes those seriously.

“Never in my wildest imagination did I think a red state governor like Greg Abbott or Ron DeSantis would take me up on the offer of importing more illegal migrants into New York City. If I had one inkling that would happen, trust me, I never would have touted being a ‘sanctuary city’ during my campaign,” Adams continued.

Asked what he intends to do about the stead stream of illegal migrants who continue to flow into NYC, Adams was resolute.

“Well, nothing, of course. I’m a Democrat. Being a hypocrite is a prerequisite, but I’ll be damned if I’ll put my reelection in jeopardy by doing the right thing and demanding President Biden secure the border!”
