(NEW YORK, N.Y.) In a huge turnaround that is no doubt linked to the fact that it’s an election year, leading Democrats are bucking Joe Biden’s Justice Department and are pledging to follow and obey the Constitution if they win.
“I realize that’s so not typical of the Democratic Party, but we really need something to boost our chances in the fall after four years of a Biden presidency and persecution of his chief political rival, Donald Trump,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said. “I get that this promise will probably ring hollow to millions of voters since we’re not a party that typically cares much about the Constitution unless it suits us, but this time, things are different — as far as voters know.
“The minority leader is right,” added Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.). “What makes things different this year is that we’re so bad at governing, and it shows. We have to at least appear like we’re changing our stripes in order to convince enough people to believe us and put us back in power.”
“Forget all of that talk about, ‘We’re going to suspend the Constitution and pack the Supreme Court,'” Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) added. “We were just saying things like that to, you know, blow off steam because Trump kept winning and Republicans took back the House.
“Trust us — that’s all we’re asking,” he added as he crossed his fingers behind his back.
