(WASHINGTON) The mayor of Reno, Nev., is expressing her outright joy that President Biden is not directing DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to send illegal migrants to her city.
“I’m just so thrilled,” Mayor Hillary Schieve said. “I just can’t express my gratitude enough. We see so many other cities struggle to deal with the millions of migrants the president’s open-door policies have created, but it looks like we’re gonna be spared, and I’m so thankful.
“In my discussions with the president, I told him that we would love to accommodate as many people who aren’t supposed to be in our country as possible, but we just can’t because we’re a gambling town and, you know, having people in the city illegally is bad for business,” she continued.
“He seemed to understand that — well, seemed to, according to an aide who helped translate what I was saying into short, easy sentences — and agreed that his goal of destroying the fabric of American society would be better served by sending hordes of migrants to other cities,” Schieve noted further.
“We’ve been reprieved, and that’s all good! I feel sorry for the other mayors who have to deal with millions of migrants, but as I just said, that’s not my problem,” she added.
