(Emmaus, Pa.) A local shopowner said she was very “relieved” when President Biden walked past her fabric store when he was in town on a campaign stop last week.
“He was right outside my door with his Secret Service and entourage, and I was scared to death he was gonna walk in,” Lizbeth Adams, 34, said. “It’s been hard enough getting this business off the ground and keeping it afloat, especially these days, ya know? But to have him walk in and look like he’s patronizing me, that would have been it — total collapse.”
“I know there were a lot of other business owners up and down the street that looked like they were welcoming him in with open arms, but let me tell you something, that was just an act,” Adams said, eyes widening. “They didn’t want him to come in either because they have to live in this town, but what are they gonna do? Throw the president of the United States out on the street?”
“You can’t do that. You just have to put up with it and just hope and pray he walks past your store, like he did mine,” she said. “I have a reputation in this town. He would have destroyed it.”
Adams went on to admit that she was near her front door ready to turn the “Open” sign to “Closed” very quickly and lock the door should Biden have acted like he was going to come in.
“I definitely had a plan,” she said, sighing.
