(WASHINGTON) The Biden administration and leading Democrats have blamed Republicans for Nikki Haley’s defeats in Tuesday’s Super Tuesday primaries, claiming their backing of former President Trump caused her to lose.
“Republicans are definitely responsible for this. They have to own it,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said after it became apparent that Haley’s decision to run for the nomination against Trump was one of the dumbest in her political career. “But I doubt we’ll see them step up.”
“Republicans should have trouble looking at themselves in the mirror this morning after what they did to Nikki Haley,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer added. “They are the ones responsible for her rejection by the party. Shame on them!”
Haley’s campaign jumped on the bandwagon as well, blaming the throngs of GOP voters for her consecutive losses after voting instead for Trump.
“It appears obvious to the former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador that GOP voters want a real Republican to represent them in the White House,” the campaign said in a statement. “We just can’t accept or abide by that. They have rejected the one Republican preferred by nearly all Democrats. Sad.”
