(WASHINGTON) Congressional leaders were taken aback by President Biden after he called them all in to discuss the budget but then asked them why they were there when they showed up.
“I was frankly a little miffed when we got in the Oval, and he demanded to know what we were doing there,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said. “After I told him he had just called me 10 minutes earlier, he called me a liar and told me, ‘Get the hell out!'”
“I wasn’t quite sure if he actually did call me,” added Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, “but I figured someone did because the next thing I knew, there I was, in the Oval Office. My staff will fill me in later, I’m sure. Probably.”
“The president is a busy man, that’s all,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer declared, covering for the Democratic leader. “Something obviously must have changed. I am not buying into the claim his mind is gone, no matter how obvious it seems.”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries also demurred: “Ah, who cares? I always enjoy going to the White House. I feel like I belong there.”
“I’m just glad I got invited,” Vice President Harris chimed in.
