(WASHINGTON) President Biden has promised that if he wins a second term, he will instruct his Justice Department to pursue fewer charges against former President Trump.
“I could see charges dropping off somewhat, yeah,” Biden told reporters. “There’s no need to beat a dead horse. I mean, I won’t allow my DOJ to drop all the charges — the guy deserves to be bled dry by legal bills — but I’m somewhat compassionate. I would ease off a little.”
Asked if he was comfortable using his Justice Department to prosecute a political opponent, Biden demurred.
“C’mon man, is that what it looks like I’m doing? Using the power of government against an opposition party member? You guys love to make up stories, don’t you?” he said.
“Even if that’s exactly what I’m doing, it’s only because Trump deserves it. Everybody knows that. The guy is dirty. Never mind that he operated in business for 50 years without having a single charge filed against him. The guy’s a modern-day Al Capone.”
