(BROWNSVILLE, Texas) The latest launch of Elon Musk’s enormous SpaceX rocket traveled the farthest distance yet before blowing up.
“Honestly, I realize that this latest rocket still didn’t break out of the Earth’s atmosphere, but it got really, really close, and that’s good enough,” Musk said after the launch. “So I guess it’s back to the drawing board. Only this time, we have a lot more data to pour through.”
“Granted, the goal is to actually build a space vehicle that doesn’t self-destruct at a certain point. It’ll be really hard to get anyone to be astronauts aboard SpaceX rockets if we don’t solve that issue. But you know, we’re working on it and I feel confident that in, say the next dozen or so launches, we may be able to actually have a rocket that stays intact,” he continued.
Musk said his design team was already tossing around several ideas such as building a rocket that doesn’t run on explodable fuel, finding other companies to actually build SpaceX rockets, and hiring a priest.
