(WASHINGTON) White House aides rushed into the Oval Office earlier today after an angry, frustrated President Biden lashed out when he couldn’t get his pen to write because he was holding it upside down.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre addressed the situation during her daily briefing, saying that Biden was “resting” after the incident.
“The president is currently being cared for by the White House physician and the country needs to know that everything is under control and he is making decisions that have to be made,” she said. “At no time was he not in control of his faculties or the country in danger.
“It was a simple mistake — anyone could have made it and in fact, millions of people do make that same mistake every day. There’s nothing to see here,” she continued. “After aides came to the president’s assistance, they corrected the situation and he went on about his business of making lives better for all Americans.
“Republicans will no doubt seize upon this incident to claim the president’s abilities are eroded to a point he can no longer use simple instruments and tools like pens, but that’s just because they’re so partisan,” Jean-Pierre noted further. “If they were fair-minded, they’d never say such a thing.”
White House physician Kevin O’Connor said later that Biden was continuing “under my care,” and that “he is in good spirits.”
