(WASHINGTON) The Biden White House announced hundreds of millions more dollars to Haiti after the U.S. sent more than $13 billion to the failed country, claiming that this time, American tax dollars will finally solve Haiti’s problems.
“I understand we’ve sent a lot of money there already, but that was then and we have a lot more knowledge about the situation now,” National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said. “So for my MAGA Republican friends who claim throwing more money at Haiti isn’t going to solve that country’s systemic problems, I say you don’t know anything about foreign policy.
“Look, the president ran the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for a long time, and he knows how the world works, okay?” Sullivan thundered. “We always do this. We send money. That’s what we do. It is how we can say we actually say we are doing something without accomplishing much of anything.”
The White House resisted critics’ suggestions that the money would simply be stolen because there is no functional government in Haiti at the moment.
“We know what we’re doing,” said a White House spokesperson. “Just leave this to the adults.”
