(FORT PIERCE, Fla.) Special Counsel Jack Smith argued this week that he’s perfectly fine with throwing Donald Trump in jail without a trial, saying that’s what “democracy” is supposed to look like.
“It’s called democracy, okay?” Smith argued before U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon. “He’s a threat to society. Everyone can see that. Today, it’s classified documents. Tomorrow, who knows what it’ll be if he wins the election? He’ll throw people in jail without trials! He will!” Smith ranted.
At that, Cannon stopped Smith and asked him why he was okay with doing to Trump what he said Trump would do to him and President Biden’s administration should he win the White House again.
“That’s different,” Smith insisted. “President Biden’s Justice Department is fighting to protect and defend democracy! Trump wants to end it. He has said so! And even if he didn’t really say so, he wants to. We just know it! So he has to be stopped any way possible, and that includes jailing him before he’s convicted of anything, if need be.”
“That’s what democracy is really about! And he knows nothing about democracy!” Smith thundered.
At press time, reports said Cannon was considering placing Smith in a straight jacket and ordering him to undergo a mental evaluation, but those reports were not confirmed.
