(WASHINGTON) White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre looked visibly annoyed when a Biden White House official got through an entire briefing without stumbling for words or rambling incoherently.
“That bro is out for my job, isn’t he?” she was overheard saying at one point. “Well, he can’t have it. He doesn’t check enough diversity boxes, no matter how much better he is at doing this than I am.”
Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy remarked after the event he could tell “she was pissed off.”
“Oh, yeah, she was definitely angry,” he remarked. “This guy was slick, he was on-message, never waivered one bit in his answers and was very obviously prepared — all things she isn’t on any given day. And you could tell that gnawed at her. I actually thought she was gonna cut him off at one point, he was so good.”
Asked whether President Biden took notice, Doocy waived off the question.
“Nah, he doesn’t notice much of anything,” Doocy said. “But Jill probably did. And my guess is, they’ll be looking for a way to bring this guy back more often because he actually makes the administration look good and competent, and Karine’s never been able to do that.”
The White House later said that the first lady most definitely noticed but that she wouldn’t be making any decision on the matter just yet.
“We’ll have to find somewhere else to stick Karine first,” the spokesperson said.
