(Sacramento, Calif.) Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill that mandates fast-food restaurants pay their employees $500 an hour, what he called “living wage legislation.”

“California has become the most expensive state in the country to live in, thanks to residents continuing to vote for me and my party, and now, because of that, we owe them a decent living,” the governor said as he put pen to the bill.

“We’re leaders in the country in terms of making wealthy corporations pay their fair share, and if they don’t, then they can pay the unemployment wages for their ex-employees, I don’t really care,” Newsom added. “But they’re going to pay one way or the other. As Democrats, we will make sure they do.”

The $500-an-hour minimum wage for fast-food jobs is the highest in the country, Newsom boasted.

“Now granted, it’s going to be a little tougher to buy a Big Mac or a Whopper, I get that, but customers shouldn’t be so stingy with their money,” the governor lectured. “Greed is one of the seven deadly sins, ya know.”
