(New York City) New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan has ordered former President Donald Trump to stop telling people that he’s being prosecuted by his political opponents in a new gag order.
“The former president ought to know that espousing such viewpoints publicly could certainly influence a potential jury and, hence, produce an outcome that the Democratic Party machine does not want to see happen,” Merchan wrote in his Monday order. “The entire objective is to allow his political opponents an advantage when it comes to not only keeping Trump off the campaign trail, but also to make him spend as much of that new Truth Social stock windfall as possible to defend himself.
“Therefore, it is the conclusion of this court that the more the former president points out what’s really happening to him, the less likely it will be to convict him, at least on appeal, which will be in a different court,” Merchan’s order continued. “As such, the defendant is hearby ordered to stop pointing out the obvious in public platforms and in public statements, less he wind up behind bars a lot sooner than anyone actually expected.”
Asked to respond, Trump carefully chose his words when describing who it is that wants to send him to prison.
“Well, let’s just say it’s not Republicans — well, most of them, anyway,” he said.
