(Manhattan, New York City) The judge presiding over former President Donald Trump’s historic criminal case ruled today that he would gladly recuse himself as long as the court system replaces him with someone just as biased.
“I have heard the defendant’s arguments for my recusal, noting my daughter’s direct financial affiliations with Democratic politicians, including President Biden’s administration as well as my own donations to Democrats,” Judge Juan Merchan said moments after he gaveled the court into session.
“And I am more than willing to step aside as presiding judge on this case provided the New York Court System can ensure that I will be replaced by another judge who has just as much bias and presumption of guilt of the defendant as I do,” Merchan continued. “That’s the only way I can ensure that the people of New York City see the conviction they want to see.
“Short of that, I plan to remain on this case and see this guilty verdict through to the end,” he noted further.
