(Manhattan, NYC) The judge presiding over Donald Trump’s politically motivated ‘hush money’ case expressed frustration during court this week that the former president has complained about how politically motivated it is.
“I’ve instructed the defendant to severely restrict what he says under the unprecedented gag order I’ve placed on him that no one else I’ve ever tried has been subjected to,” Judge Juan Merchan said during proceedings. “And yet he continues to voice his objections in violation of this gag order.”
“Unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures, and I aim to enforce this gag order by taking another first-of-its-kind action — putting the defendant, a former president, behind bars if he continues his behavior,” Merchan continued.
“He obviously does not yet understand just how this process, this trial, is going to work, so a reminder may be necessary,” the judge added as he fumbled with his Democratic voter registration card.
