(New York City) A promising young actor said this week that he’s “pretty sure” he could somehow find his way into a commercial for a major company soon.
“I’m very confident in my ability to make this happen,” Hal Martin, 27, said. “I’ve got good representation, I’m classically trained as an actor, and I’ve have a decent amount of experience already. And you know, even if it’s just a small part, a ‘white guy flashed across the screen for a half-second’ kind of thing, I’m okay with that, too, because I know my place.”
Martin said he’s “been at it a while” trying to break through the barrier of today’s non-white TV commercial environment despite being a person in the racial majority, but he added that he thinks success is just around the corner.
“The first thing you have to do if you’re a white actor in my position is to believe in yourself,” Martin said. “And I do.”
