BETHANY BEACH, DEL. — Democrats and animal rights activists were outraged to discover the Trump administration is allowing federal officials to actually separate immigrant baby seals from their mommies and daddies and put them in cages.
The Department of Animal Recovery’s Sea Life Division came under fire this week after agents were photographed placing a recovered baby immigrant seal in a cage. When questioned, agents said they were merely following protocol.
But Democrats blasted the Trump administration over what they said was blatant seal abuse, as well as cruelty that was simply uncalled for.
“There is nothing this president won’t denigrate, harm, or otherwise disrespect,” said Levon Patrick, head of Citizens Reunited for Ocean Creatures, or CROC.
“For goodness sake, he’s separating immigrant seals from their parents at the sea borders of our country. Who does this?” Patrick claimed.
When asked by a reporter if he was upset by the policy when the Obama Administration was caging immigrant seal youngsters and separating them from their moms and dads, Patrick dismissed him.
“First of all, I’m not sure that’s true,” said Patrick. “And even if it is, I’m sure President Obama had good intentions and meant well. Trump, by comparison, is a sealist. He hates them because they look different.”
