WASHINGTON, D.C. — Centers for Disease Control and Prevention chief Dr. Rochelle Walensky confirmed new social distancing guidelines Tuesday for Americans who have been vaccinated for COVID-19.

“We’ve looked at this from every angle and we believe it is finally okay for vaccinated people to gather socially again, but with the proper precautions. That’s why we’ve settled on the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge in central Montana. It’s remote, it’s safe, but also it fulfills our objective to let Americans mingle again,” she told a news conference.

Asked of Montana state officials were on board with the new recommendations, Walensky said that they were consulted at every step of the way.

“Montana officials have been very helpful and are eager become ‘the destination’ for vaccinated Americans who are ready to hang out with people again,” she said. “It’s been a long time coming, but thanks to these vaccines, we’re finally there.”

It’s not clear when the recommendations will actually be issued, but local reports in Montana note that vaccinated people who have their COVID passports are already arriving near the refuge with coolers, cook stoves, and tents.
